  • Why Perform Full Scale Structure Tests?

    There is no doubt that full scale structure testing has decreased in the last three decades. A major reason is that computing costs (in both time and money) have come down making analysis more financially attractive than physical testing. I would argue however, that some testing is beneficial, even necessary. Computation does not totally replace full scale structure testing because 1) Accepting the results of an analysis always comes down to a judgement and 2) Embedded in any analysis are assumptions that are impractical or impossible to mimic exactly in a model.
